Paul van Dyk - 'We Come Together' feat. Sue McLaren
For me the unification of people on the dancefloor is one of the most encouraging factors throughout my career to date. What I wanted to achieve from this track was to again try and capture that spirit. Electronic music has been bringing people together for 25 years now and I think its done it more effectively than any other music movement in modern history. The fact that it draws people together from all different backgrounds, religions and citizenships, whilst marginalizing negative attitudes and violence is wonderful. It's one of the most underrated, overlooked aspects of the genre and yet it happens every week in every EDM-speaking town and city in the world.
I spoke to Sue about this and she said 'no problem, I have an idea for this'. I gave her a backing track, which had quite melodic trance tone to it and she quite quickly came back with a draft vocal from it. I loved it - thought it encapsulated what we were talking about perfectly, but with her very sweet, very angelic vocal, it was all a bit too, too beautiful. So I worked on something a bit rougher, more pounding with a bit of electro .
edge and a kind of techno jangle to one of its minor melodies. I think I was pretty decided that I wanted to take this far out of any trance 'comfort zone'.
Paul van Dyk WE COME TOGETHER' ft. Sue McLaren From the album EVOLUTION
It begins a single road Up ahead are many turns Every corner brings me hope Every mile you live and learn
Many paths are crossing over Passengers along the way When a spark meets other forces Come together makes a flame
Side by side Strong as stone We all walk on together Side by side Unite as one We are one voice together
United we stand Divided, we won't fall And when we get the call We come together
Repeat CHORUS
Side by side Strong as stone On and on
Side by side Strong as stone On and on
Side by side Strong as stone On and on On and on
