303 started from the embryonic success of the Cream Reunion parties held to celebrate the impact of one of the world’s most iconic clubnights. The remit was simple; unify the music of the present with the grooves of the past, going one step further than simple reverential parties hailing the sounds of yesteryear by joining the dots between those halcyon days with the music of present. Even the name hinted at the common theme, using the moniker of the synthesiser which has underpinned much of the sound that has dominated dancefloors since acid house.

The calibre of artists booked reflects that lineage, with DJs selected on account of their status not only in the history of electronic music in from day one, but also remaining relevant now. Justin Robertson, Dave Seaman and Oliver Lieb have all epitomised that role with aplomb, but their next guest really stands tall in the criteria. 303 are proud to introduce MrAndrew Weatherall.

Since the late eighties Weatherall has been one of the UK music scene’s most enduringly well-loved mavericks. His musical output is refreshingly wide ranging, adding his production nous to the Ecstasy drenched Screamdelica masterpiece from Primal Scream, infusing St Etienne’s cover of Neil Young ‘Only love can break your heart’ with a glorious melancholy dub and crafting menacing electro breaks with Radioactive Man under the Two Lone Swordsmen pseudonym.

There’s also been Balearic techno in the form of Sabres of Paradise, whilst the start of the twenty first century saw him balancing a clubbing DJ remit helping nurture the amalgamation of techno and electroclash whilst balancing it with a one man mission to push rockabilly (his 2007 compilation for Soma Records Sci-Fi-Low-Fi encapsulates this). Even now you’re just as likely to hear him playing sub 118 bpm grooves alongside Sean Johnston for hours on end under the A Love From Outer Space moniker as you are closing the biggest festival crowd to a tour de force of pummelling techno. Trying to pigeon hole him is a slur on the phrase itself, let alone the man who defies any notion of it.

303 will be placing Weatherall in an environment he knows only too well, a low ceiling rave cavern rammed to the rafters with seasoned music lovers, the Williamson Tunnels. DJ support comes from long time Liverpool Lord Sabre acolyte Mr Paul and the 303 residents.
