My studio method with Austin is probably the most clear-cut of anyone I work with these days, so we have a pretty good idea at the start of how the process will go and as such, 'Verano' had a fairly similar development to 'Symmetries'. To me, there's this definite attraction-of-opposites with Austin and myself, which I find pretty fascinating. When we were making 'Verano' I was going to the studio in Berlin, which was under snow at the time, and Austin would be dialing-in from Miami. We'd be working on the same track, but he'd be looking out and seeing cloudless skies and palm trees!
With my music making music, regardless of whether it's an original track for one of my albums or a remix for Madonna, Timberlake or whoever, it always has its start-point in the grimy basement clubs of Berlin. Strobe-light lit, condensation running down the wall; this is what I lived, breathed and loved about Tresor and E-Werk. That's always been the core that everything stems from. When that background meets Austin's Miami - very expressive, very outgoing, sunny, irrepressible - I think the strange connect that lies between those two elements is what makes it work so well. I love the fact that we also rub off a bit on each other and that the 'DNA' mixes and transfers that little bit. 'Verano' was among the first tracks that I started to play in its finished form. As such, it was natural, I guess, that it became the debut single to come off 'Evolution'. For me it combines all the elements of electronic music that I like so much. It has some house parts and some techno-y elements, which I think you can hear especially clearly on the Miami mix, if you've caught that. It also has those trancey synths, and it's just a really powerful and straightforward track, with this kind of 'floor-first-and-foremost' heart to it.
