Paul van Dyk - 'Heart Stops Beating' feat. Sarah Howells
What can you say about Sarah?! She is one of the most talented vocalists in the out there and she's built a really impressive body of work with the EDM tracks she's sung on. At the same time though, she's got her whole own other thing going on with her Paper Aeroplanes band and makes fantastic acoustic guitar backed music. I met her for the first time at a big festival in Hamburg. She was performing before me, which was just the best way for me to see her doing what she does. I grabbed her as she came off and said, 'Hey, listen, I'm playing all the tracks you're singing on anyway, why don't we collaborate in some way?'
She sent me 'Heart Stops Beating', which was just backed by a solo guitar and I really lost it. Both lyrically and vocally it was all there, so I took her dry vocals into the studio and began building a lot of different elements under them.
I don't think its possible to say this is 'X' type of track or 'Y' type of track. It has trancey elements, its has electro aspects, there are even rock parts in there, with the great throbbing, bassy guitar. With every year that goes by it becomes harder to categorize a greater percentage of music electronic dance music that's released and that I find a generally a positive trend. Maybe one day terms like 'electro', 'house', 'trance' and 'techno' will cease to be used and music will either be 'good', 'bad' or 'ok'! Who knows!
Paul van Dyk, HEART STOPS BEATING' ft. Sarah Howells From the album EVOLUTION
the truth is tuned to a frequency you can't always hear that easily you should know you're a pro
with gold leaf charm and the party tricks expensive smile i am hit for six i should know it's always a show
but i can't catch you out you feed me endless lines to shout about
over and over till my heart stops beating louder and louder till my lungs start bleeding
one last chance to be intimate believe me dear i'll get over it you should know what you're letting go
some things don't come easily you're not my priority you should go i think you should go
but i can't shake this doubt when i let you in you catch me out
and I'll be waiting and I'll be waiting
over again over again
don't go
over again over again over again over again
