A maelstrom of thought and sound, constantly at odds with one another, is what lies at the core of Canadas The Agonist. Combining elements that draw from numerous metal sub genres to create a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts, their new album Prisoners picks up where 2009s Lullabies for the Dormant Mind left off, with a dizzying array of musical time changes, complex riffing and lyrics as dense and heady as Stephen Hawking drowned in a sea of lead. Guitarist Danny Marino explains, Musically we have pushed our boundaries even further than on Lullabies. We have really challenged ourselves in both musicality and in patience.

Their attention to detail and willingness to paint outside of the lines pays off in spades with Prisoners, highlighting The Agonist’s place among metal’s fearless sonic innovators.
