‘The Phantom of the Opera’ will become TV series
Jean-Pierre Jeunet ("Amelie", "Alien: Resurrection") will be director of the series based on the novel written by Gaston Leroux, "The Phantom of the Opera".
The plot will be adapted by a screenwriter of the film ‘Dracula’ Tony Krantz. Producer functions will do creator of the series "Desperate Housewives" Marc Cherry. The premiere of TV project will take place on ABC channel, date was not specified.
"I love working with Tony and was pleased to learn that he will write the script for this series. This will be a show with colorful characters and seductive culture of Paris in 1919. "The Phantom of the Opera" written by Tony – is a provocative world filled with love, loss, secrets, lies and murder"- commented Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
According to the publication, the action in the series will take place in Paris, as in the original novel, but will be transferred from the Opera of the XIX century in the jazz club of early XX century. The plot will put British military pilot, Member of the First World War, and the person whose body was severely damaged from burns. Christine Daaé will not play in TV series.
Gothic novel of Gaston Leroux 'The Phantom of the Opera’ was published in installments from September 1909 to January 1910th. The famous Paris Opera, which inspired the writer of the book to write this novel, was built only 47 years earlier. The book and musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on its plot gained a lot of popularity in 1986.
