Interview with Nervo
NERVO – Strong DJ DUO or two hot girls who know the sound of real music!
Miriam Nervo and Olivia Nervo are Australian musicians and songwriters. Their stage name is NERVO. After signing with Sony/ATV Music Publishing at 18 years of age, the twins pursued careers as songwriting partners, co-writing the Grammy Award-winning single, "When Love Takes Over", performed by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland.
Interviewer: Hey girls! How did Miami go for you this year?
Nervo: It was a week of insanity. So much fun, probably too much fun. We need a week off to recover!
Interviewer: There is always a real buzz on Miami WMC this year, how important a week is this for you? Just another week DJing to the masses, a chance to catch up with old DJ friends…or an important week for work?
Nervo: We think it's a super fun week, but now with so many other conferences (ADE, IMS) we're not sure it's the be-all and end-all if you decide to take a break from it. Having said that, we truly enjoy going as we love to see all our buddies in one place all at one time. It's like Summer camp for music lovers, with copious amounts of alcohol and amazing parties!
Interviewer: Massive news for the UK coming up as you’ll be touching down at the Brixton Electric on May 9th for one of your ‘Inspired’ album launch parties with special guest R3hab. What can you tell us about the album…
Nervo: It was nostalgic fun being able to dig up old club records that inspired us to be in dance music. We narrowed it down from a list of about 200 tunes to around 30 tunes in the end. The compilation is divided into two CDs. The first CD is full of tracks that inspired us and made us love dance music and dance culture. The next CD is of current tracks - including many of our own and one brand new track from us that features Duane Harden. We first discovered Duane from his massive hit with Armand Van Helden - 'You Don't Even Know Me' and have been dying to work with him for years. We finally made it happen in 2013 and are so happy that we can release the track on this compilation as an exclusive…
Interviewer: You DJ all around the world at the biggest festivals on the planet spinning the best spinners imaginable. Who are some of the DJs you always love watching?
Nervo: Ooh that's a tough one Dan. We love the energy the big room guys bring to a set but then we also really love the groove in deep house and even tech house. We love going to see everyone from the crazy Steve Aoki to the more chilled Solomun. Love Pete Tong sets as they're always fresh and original. Also really love MK for his happy vibes...Hot Since 82 for his sexy chill vibes. Then of course guys like Hardwell and Deorro have a great energy too.
Interviewer: Great answer. Brazil looked a whole lot of fun a couple of weeks ago, Carnival madness and roof parties galore. What were some of the highlights?
Nervo: Where do we begin?! Brazil is always so much fun to play. Being there for Carnival was such an incredible experience. We played a 5-hour set at an after party that went until 1pm!
Interviewer: What in your opinion makes each other such a great producer?
Nervo: We're not afraid to work on a track for 6 months if we need to. We both have a super strong work ethic.
Interviewer: What is the best freebie you have received recently?
Nervo: We receive a lot of free headphones. They always come in handy!
Interviewer: What is the current top 10 you are spinning…
Nervo: Rise Early Morning - NERVO ft. Au Revoir Simone
Hype (Autoerotique Remix) – Deorro
Shake That (Tom Staar Remix) - Marlon Hoffstadt
Crackin I Don't Care (MAKJ Edit) - Bassjackers vs. Martin Garrix vs. Icona Pop
Tremor - Dimitri Vegas
Like Mike & Martin Garrix
We Like To Party – Showtek
Syntemilke - Daddy's Groove & Congorock
Not Taking This No More (Bass_King_Vs_X-Vertigo_Remix) - NERVO & Ivan Gough ft Beverly Knight
Techno Raveology Right Now (LEE WELLS MASHUP) - DVBBS VS Nom de Strip VS Moby - Nothing Matters (Original Club Mix) - Mark Knight ft Skin
Interviewer: You will be appearing once again at one of the best festivals in the world in August, Creamfields. What makes this such a special festival for a producer to play at and why is it so damn good?
Nervo: Creamfields is such an iconic festival. It's known all around the world for making an extra special effort to book great electronic artists - not only the bigger names but the smaller more underground guys too. It's very exciting to be a part of their line-up this year!
Interviewer: What is on a NERVO rider in 2014?
Nervo: Our production rider is getting a little more complicated these days as we try and have a little more C02 for our shows. But, the technical rider is just 4 CDJs linked and a mixer DJM900. We also like a wireless microphone through the mixer so we can effect our vocals. Our hospitality rider has Jameson, Grey Goose, soda water, Monster energy drink for that extra kick, power bars and fruit in case we haven't eaten and coconut water to make us feel like we're being healthy!
Interviewer: When was the last time you had to pinch yourselves and ask ‘is this really happening to us…?
Nervo: Every day! It might sound funny, but we still pinch ourselves when we check-in to super plush hotels or when we rock up to a club and they need to get security - or when we step out on stage and we see our fans. It feels like we're living a dream.
Interviewer: What are your plans for Ibiza 2014?
Nervo: We move into our house on the 1st of July and we'll be there until the end of September. We're very much looking forward to settling into island life again.
Interviewer: And finally, album aside, what is coming out next from you studio wise?
Nervo: We have a new track coming out for the Ministry Of Sound compilation – ‘Inspired’. And then we have a collaboration with R3hab coming out in the next few months too. Our album is finished and we're currently signing it to a new label so we're just waiting for the paper work to be finished. From there we'll pick the singles. Hopefully it will be out this year!
NERVO will be performing at Cream in Liverpool on Sunday 4th May / Electric Brixton on Friday 9th May 2014 to celebrate the launch of their new album ‘Inspired’ and Creamfields UK on Sunday 24th August 2014. Tickets on sale now www.ticketmaster.co.uk
