All Julia’s talent and hard work resulted in the making of a
highly professional singer. Then at the beginning of 2009, Julia
met legendary, Grammy award-winning American composer and producer
Walter Afanasieff, known for his work with such superstars as
Mariah Carey, Celin Dion, Michael Bolton, Lara Fabian, and Kenny G.
Attracted by her musicality, vocal skills and charisma, Afanasieff
offered to work with her. Within a year, a strikingly
beautiful album under the draft title “Wild Butterfly” had come
into being.
Walter and Julia have put so much feeling and mastery into this album that eminent musicians are agreed it is destined for greatness. In it, Julia displays her talent not only in singing, but in composing as well. Further, the collaboration of the legendary Kenny G (saxophone), Tim Pierce (guitar) and the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra make this album something really unique.Julia was born in 1981 into a family of musicians. At an early age, she was demonstrating great aptitude for singing, and her father, a musician and composer, was not slow in noticing. When she was two years old, he began giving her vocal lessons, employing diverse methods of instruction. It soon paid off, and by the age of five Julia was performing difficult musical tasks: improvising sophisticated musical scales, for example, and displaying a startling vocal flexibility.
Julia
began singing professionally. By the age of nine, she had taken
part in numerous music TV programs on leading Russian channels. One
of the most important events in the young songbird’s career was her
participation in a popular TV contest, “Morning Star,” in 1991-92.
Her triumph there had a decisive impact on her future: she was
asked to present music news on one of the most popular teenage
programs of those days, “Tam Tam News.” Interviewing prominent
Russian musicians with great energy and charisma, Julia helped to
make the show a nationwide hit.
Her professional career took off in other ways as well. Recording
new songs, shooting music videos, touring—Julia managed all this
while still in school. By 1995, she was ready to release her first
album, “My School,” which won enthusiastic reviews and still
greater public acclaim. Leading Russian TV channels took an
interest in her and her renown grew. Her musical tracks became a
so-called “School of Song” for aspiring vocalists, constituting as
they did fine examples of the successful melding of musicality and
technical sophistication.
In 1995, Julia took part in “Big Apple 95,” the international vocal
contest held annually in New York City, and took home the Grand
Prix. Since then, she has participated in numerous vocal contests
and performed on stage alongside such world-famous stars as Diana
Ross, Sheril Crow, and Christina Aguilera.
Julia has two degrees, one in music and the other in acting. She is
a welcome guest on top-rated TV shows as well as a familiar
presence in the most prestigious Moscow concert halls. Julia’s
charisma, glamorous screen presence and everyday image attract
filmmakers, too. She has starred in several movies and continued
hosting music programs on Russian television, including “Saturday
Night” and “Day of Sweethearts,” which swept the ratings.
Nevertheless, music remains the most important thing in Julia’s
life. In 2005, she released the album “Music of Love, which was
quickly followed by “Let’s Talk about Love” and “Different Songs
about Love.” Needless to say, Julia took an active part in the
creation and production of all these albums, even contributing her
ideas to the accompanying videos.
Julia Nachalova is young, talented, and beautiful. She has already
attained everything to which most musicians merely aspire. But the
musical Odyssey she began at age two is only now beginning: as
“Wild Butterfly” makes clear, even more amazing songs, videos, and
tours remain in store for her and, more important, for us her
listeners.
