History of Merry Poppins comes to life again

The film is based on true events related to the creation of the film “Mary Poppins”, which was released in 1964. The main characters – Pamela Lyndon Travers as “Marry Poppins” books author – actress Emma Thompson, and founder and director of the film company Walt DisneyTom Hanks.

The story begins with the fact that Walt Disney promises his young daughters to make a film about Marry Poppins. But sometimes it is not so easy to carry out one's desire. For nearly 20 years, he tried to persuade the author of these books, the writer Pamela Lyndon Travers (Emma Thompson), allow him to create a film about Mary Poppins, but she was so adamant. Finally, in 1961 he managed to organize a two-week trip for Travers in Los Angeles, during which he is trying to connect her to the preparatory work on the film.

Despite the welcoming reception hosted by Disney, and a willingness to take into account all her wishes, Pamela Travers in future film project is annoyed by everything – she requires radical changes in the script, complete lack of animation, as well as the language text correctness of film's songs.

In parallel with this storyline develops other film – memories of Travers about her childhood spent in Australia, where her name was Helen Goff (the role of the main character as a child takes Annie Rose Buckley). She remembers her father Travers Goff (Colin Farrell) and mother Margaret (Ruth Wilson). Tender love of her father for their children combined with his infirmity and addiction to alcohol, which eventually leads to tragic consequences. Gradually it becomes clear the close relationship of the father image of the writer and one of the characters in her books – Mr. Banks.

The film was limitedly released in the United States on December 13, 2013, and widely released – December 20, 2013.
