Dover Street Market in New York!

Huge department store Dover Street Market opened 21 December in New York. And it is not just a shopping mall. Branded items of clothes here are like works of art.

The seven-story building – is the new brainchild of Comme des Garçons, its owner and inspirer Rei Kawakubo. This is the third store in the DSM network, the other two are located in London and in Tokyo.

But, Dover Street Market in New York – is a special one, not similar to its predecessors. "I wanted to create a space where various artists from different fields can work together, when each of them brings something new and its own style to the common atmosphere. And when they work together, we see a beautiful chaos" – says Kawakubo. "Each of the participants have their own particular vision, but we all share the same ideas and the same free spirit" – adds Adrian Joffe, Rei’s husband and her business partner. Mostly designing space belongs to Rei, but some designers’ and artists’ brands have received full freedom of action and established their own separated Corners with complete freedom.

Going through the wooden entrance door of a market, we get to the pop-up store Louis Vuitton, jewelry and Corner Bakery. Here everything is made  of wood.

The second floor is also decorated with roughly treated wood, but on the third,  which exhibited Azzedine Alaïa, the wood things are not found.

You can see striped columns, peas, hearts, winking with colourful T-shirts assortment.

On the fourth floor are exposed things of the young designers and brands such as Lou Dalton, Phoebe English, Craig Green, Sibling. Among them you can find Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskii. And next, the floor above, settled long recognized and honoured Rick Owens, Sacai, Saint Laurent, and Comme des Garçons SHIRT. There is also a blue corner of J.W. Anderson.

On the sixth floor are Simone Rocha, Thom Browne, Undercover and others. And the seventh floor – is a real kingdom of Prada.
