On the planet, where there is Middle Ages, works people observers, who are trying to correct the course of events carefully, without breaking the logical development of the history. The main hero is Don Rumata Estorsky realizing his task of maintaining neutrality, however, does not stand up when in Arkanare (one of the cities on the planet) seizes power "evil community". Rumata takes up the sword to punish evildoers, and thus breaks all the rules and laws interfering in historical process.
