Frederico Scavo

He is the supersonic Italian stallion ensuring World Cup fever with 'Balada'.

Journalist: Welcome, where in the world are you today?

Frederico Scavo: Today I'm at home with my son Bryan, born just one and a half months ago... but I'm preparing the bags for this weekend as I will be in China to play for two dates.

Journalist: You have the world’s dancefloors jumping again, this time round thanks to your massive ‘Balada’ tune, please talk us through the sound and history of your track…

Frederico Scavo: ’Balada’ is a track created by myself two years ago…I thought I'd present it again this time cause it is suitable for the World Cup in Brazil, I've decided to give it exclusively to Fatboy Slim to play on his tour in Brazil that ended a few weeks ago and the reaction of the public was simply amazing. The track is getting full support by other big names such as Nervo and Bob Sinclar.

Journalist: You were once asked in an interview what track do you wish you could play in any of your sets, you replied Frankie Knuckles ‘Your Love’. What did this great man mean to you and your music?

Frederico Scavo: I grew up spinning the first vinyl of David Morales and Frankie Knuckles whose track ‘Your Love’ represents for me a hymn and a track that makes me feel good and makes my soul travel.
I think we have lost a great person and a great artist…always smiling and always helpful. The world of dance and house owes so much to him. R.I.P. Frankie.

Journalist: You hail from the town of Fucecchio in Tuscany, Italy. The same town that a certain Manuela Falomi is from. Have you ever met this superstar porn star???!!

Frederico Scavo: I see that you are a fan of the hardcore genre and know very well the stars like Manuela!
Well anyway, Fucecchio is a tiny and small town in the heart of Tuscany where you can breathe a special and peaceful air.
I love the city where I was born and I think it’s perfect to live in total relax without stress.

Journalist: You fell in love with music at an early age, what are some of your earliest musical memories?

Frederico Scavo: I remember when I was playing vinyl records in the early 90s with a belt-drive turntable at private parties , the first house sounds made me fall in love with this genre!

Journalist: When did the idea of a career in music first form in your mind?

Frederico Scavo: When I was 16 years old I was working at my father’s factory and was DJing in the local clubs of Tuscany .
The two things couldn’t get along because I was coming back home too late from the club at 6 in the morning and at 8 I had to be at work.
As soon as I was able to get a small salary as a DJ warming up for the big DJs, I decided to quit my job at the factory and I put my soul and passion for music and with a touch of luck and a lot of sacrifice I was able to create a job for me and for my life.

Journalist: What was your first break into the music industry?

Frederico Scavo: The first important milestone was in 2002 when I officially remixed with the name of the group Pink Coffee the classic track ‘Another Brick in The Wall’ by Pink Floyd.
The amazing thing was to receive the official approval by none other than Roger Waters, the leader of this fantastic band.
The remix received the Gold record in Italy and in various parts of the world.

Journalist: A huge summer of gigs for you stretching out ahead of you, where are some of the shows you cannot wait to hit?

Frederico Scavo: I am really happy that summer is coming , one of the dates that I’m really looking forward to is at The Ministry of Sound in July, than Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos and the fantastic club Carpe Diem in Kvar – Croatia. All the other dates of my #baladaworldtour2014 can be found on my federicoscavo.com

Journalist: What is the record that…

…always reminds you of your childhood?

Pink Floyd ‘Another Brick In The Wall’.

…reminds you of having your heart broken?

Youssou N'Dour e Neneh Cherry ‘7 Seconds’.

…will ALWAYS gets you dancing?

Indeep ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ Original mix.

…you wish you had made yourself?

Frankie Knuckles ‘Your Love’.

Journalist: A recent quote from a superstar DJ…“I believe true DJing is actually an art, but it’s a dying art, as everyone is pushing the sync button…it’s a real shame when you see a ‘DJ’ plug his laptop in and call this DJing. Music will always evolve but sometimes not in the best way.” What are your thoughts on that?

Frederico Scavo: For me the technology is fine, but the DJ has to do the DJing, he must have a good technique and skill in mixing and selecting the right music.
I must admit I was lucky to start mixing with vinyl and I got a proper education.

Journalist: Who are some of the producers from around the world you are giving high fives to right now?

Frederico Scavo: I’m actually playing all the tracks from the Cube Guys right now. I love the sound of Alex Kenji, My Digital Enemy, Prock & Fitch and Mark Knight - head honcho of Toolroom Records.

Journalist: Italy alongside the UK and US used to be the centre of all things house music. Your home country has been in a decline for a long time, but in recent years many producers and clubs have started to rise again. What happened, where did the love go?

Frederico Scavo: Music like fashion is cyclical...there are some musical genres that have a short life... after an intense EDM period it seems that good music arranged with real instruments and great voices is coming back.
I think that Italy will play again a key role in the music world and will be able to present new and interesting talents.

Journalist: And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

Frederico Scavo: I'm creating a lot of tracks for the dancefloor for labels such as Toolroom, Records X and Area94.
I can also share some great news with you…I’m preparing with the label d:vision some  projects in the pop/dance direction with some powerful featuring...but at the moment I can’t reveal more...it’s TOP SECRET…heh heh.

Thank you Frederico, see you on the dancefloor...

Frederico Scavo: Thanks to you too, I really appreciate your magazine and I wanna express my gratitude for your support.
